The Process

Color from the Earth

Every color begins with natural materials gathered, prepared, and transformed by hand. Wool is washed, dyed, spun, and woven slowly — honoring the rhythm of the workshop.

The elder weaver explained the entire process — from obtaining the wool to dyeing and weaving. I bought two 5×8 rugs; you'll never find this quality or design in the US. 100% wool, natural dyes, signed by the weaver in the corner, and shipped safely via UPS.

A warm Oaxacan welcome to a spectacular workshop. Colors and textures everywhere — a feast for the eyes. Make sure to see the little cochineal insects that give the blood-red dye its color. Thank you, Familia Vásquez!

We spent the morning learning about natural dyes and watching the looms in action. Isaac's knowledge of Zapotec patterns is extraordinary. We left with a stunning indigo runner that gets compliments every time someone visits our home.

Authentic, personal, and deeply moving. This is not a tourist shop — it's a living tradition. The family welcomed us into their home and shared stories passed down for generations. The rug we commissioned arrived perfectly packed within three weeks.

Isaac walked us through every step — carding the wool, grinding cochineal, dipping skeins in indigo. We watched a rug come to life on the loom. The craftsmanship is unmatched and the prices are honest.

Hidden gem in Teotitlán. The family treated us like old friends, served mezcal, and explained the meaning behind every Zapotec symbol. Our tapete is the centerpiece of our living room.

The cochineal demonstration alone is worth the visit — a tiny insect that produces the most brilliant red I've ever seen. We bought a small runner and are already planning a return for a larger commission.
